Family Documentary Photography: 1st birthday for Theo in South Park San Diego
A Tiggeriffic first birthday
A child’s first birthday party is a special thing and I take very seriously that Nancy entrusted me with recording those moments for her. It’s a landmark to celebrate and this one was no exception to the rule. It was a Tigger-themed extravaganza, bursting with color and energy, just like its namesake and as always I had a blast creating photos for Theo’s birthday.
In a world where our phones often take center stage, there's something undeniably magical about bringing friends and family together for a backyard gathering. Having a family documentary photographer capture these moments really allows my clients to enjoy this moment with their kid. And when it's a celebration as significant as a first birthday. From a Tigger-shaped piñata, to tigger decorations, treats, and backdrops, I can tell you that the atmosphere was infused with the spirit of the Hundred Acre Wood.
I think this type of event really serves the family documentary photography style that I specialize in. It is about authenticity. It is about a moment in time that is genuine and important to capture the right way. And these landmark moments really benefit from unposed, unscripted storytelling that build a visual legacy of your family. This is my first love. This is why I photograph. Family photojournalism creates a bridge between your past, present, and future self and celebrates the uniqueness of your life.
Anyways, I’ll stop blabbering on and I’ll let you enjoy the photos.
