Documenting a birthday golf at the famous Torrey Pines course

I genuinely feel lucky to do the job I do. On top of this, I get to do it in San Diego. The city and its amenities provide so many opportunities to create fun and interesting work. Some situations really provide a fun and interesting challenge to my work. This was one of them. How do I shoot eight really fun guys golfing at the legendary Torrey Pines course (it was Austin’s birthday) and at the same time infuse my street and documentary style in those pictures. It was an incredible opportunity to be creative and I think we did great.

I saw “we” because I always include my clients into me creating photos for them. I really don’t see how I could do this without trust, establishing a good communication for the day, and everybody being on board. I love the idea that photography is a collaborative art, at least that’s the way I approach this art. I do not like the idea that I create work in a vaccum. I am influenced by my mental state, the location, and my clients.

It was a perfect day for photography with a slightly overcast weather, paragliders in the background so close we could touch them, an ocean breeze coming off the cliffs, and two prisitne golf courses. The Torrey Pines are of SD is my favorite space in the city for many reasons, but one of my favorites are the views… this golf course does not disappoint, let me tell ya.

Enjoy the photos… :)
