Soojin and Jorge’s epic punk rock wedding

I had the absolute pleasure to be the photographer for the riotous celebration of Soojin and Jorge's unconventional punk rock wedding. Set against the vibrant walls of VASA, a venue that echoes both history and hipster aesthetics, this wedding was not just a union of two people; it was a glorious mash-up of cultures, traditions, and unapologetic attitude.

Rock on.

As I walked into the venue, what struck me instantly was the electricity in the air. The decor reflected Soojin and Jorge’s unique personalities—with Green Day and Blink 182 records to showcase table placements and numbers —a very veritable kaleidoscope of references to their love of music and respect for their culture. Think punk rock meets traditional Korean and Mexican elements, where safety pins and mariachis coexisted with hanbok fabrics and Mexcian cowboy boots. It was a celebration that demanded attention, a loud proclamation of love.

As the sun began to set, the real party kicked off. The reception was a love letter to punk rock—think bold music that shook the bones, and a generous spread of food that made you want to scream with delight. First dance!!? NO… but a first performance? YES. Soojin and Jorge brought their own instruments and freaking went into punk concert mode where they performed several punk classics and opened the dance floor to a mosh pit… yes, you read right… a mosh pit. What a treat to photograph.

You know, I don’t remember what the food looked like, or if they had signature drinks (they must have had), if people shouted “Cheers"!” “Salud!” or “Geonbae!” as the night progressed, or even if the cake was good… what I remember from that wedding was that there was a freaking instant RAMEN BAR! Now that’s punk rock.

So here's to Soojin and Jorge—two souls whose love story is as compelling and unyielding as the punk rock they love. Their wedding was more than a ceremony; it was an experience. In the heart of San Diego, they promised not only to love each other but to also honor their roots… and THAT is California.

As I left VASA, the echoes of laughter and music faded into a backdrop of cars buzzing by. I couldn’t help but feel uplifted—because in a world often defined by division, Soojin and Jorge crafted a night that celebrated unity, authenticity, and the power of love in all its forms.

Enjoy the photos…
