... I started my career in photography in 2016 without a client and without an idea of what I was doing. Honestly, it's not a very wise way to start a business but the moment I took the decision to become a professional photographer, I knew it was the right one.
Because I needed to figure this thing out, I looked for a community for similar nutjobs and ended up finding Professional Photographers of San Diego County -PPSDC for short. I have been an active board member of this organization from the start. I soon discovered that I was an "unconventional" photographer for the organization and my work would never completely fit in with the rest of my peers but it never bothered me, on the contrary, if I can be honest. I relished it. but I do truly love my friends there and what this community can bring to one's career.
Imagine my surprise when a couple of months ago, the new president asked me to be the first back-in-person-after-Covid featured speaker for the month of August. in 6 short years, I went from the-guy-that-knew-nothing to the-guy-that-people-think-I-may-have-something-interesting-to-share. It's surreal.
I'm flattered, and honored.
it's August 9.

Just incredible
If you are a subscriber to this newsletter... which... you are... because you are reading it right now 🤦♂️ (note that I could have erased this line but it's funnier that way), you know the "portraits of my father" project has been 2 and 1/2 years in the making.
I really wanted this project to be seen by many and feel relevant to everybody and what better time than father's day to talk about it! and boy was it talked about... at least at my level of recognition as an artist with 4 major outlets talking about it
... including the San Diego Union Tribune with a center fold in the arts and culture section of the Sunday edition for Father's Day!! WHAAAT!? displayed for your pleasure right below.
Just incredible. Couldn't be happier.
You wanna see the dumb story of how I got the paper... head to my TikTok account. That's right! I'm hip, and young and still relevant... I do the Tic Tacs... I know how to tikky tokk.
No, but really. Here's the link to my TikTok.
More stuff to be proud of
As I'm writing this, I just got the email from MyModernMet that they will feature my project on their site! incredible. This is really exciting. I'll update you when it comes out.
I realize I keep saying "incredible"... because it is. it is still incredible to me that this project is resonating with so many others in such a way.
Here's a feature in PetaPixel and one in Rangefinder, 2 pretty big Get for me.
