ADITL (A Day In The Life) in Talmadge

I had the absolute privilege of Shooting A Day In The Life session recently in the beautiful and iconic neighborhood of Talmadge in San Diego. It’s one of my favorite places. My friend Rhonda hired me to document her family after she saw the fabulous video my friend Brett of dis-moi-oui films made for me.

The one thing that struck me that Rhonda said when she made the decision to hire me was: “why wait? This feels like this is an important thing to do; especially nowadays.”

Well, I could not agree more… Because of COVID, we spend more time than ever at home with our loved ones these days. We get on each other’s nerves, we laugh, we love each other… we get to appreciate the people living under our roof differently.

As far as I’m concerned, I help you build photographic legacies for generations to come. These are the photos that will mean something years down the line when the kids are grown. These are the moments that matter.

One thing I will tell you is that rarely do I ask (or get) any preemptive information about the family I shoot with. Just the very basics but I actually don’t want to know too much. I want to come in fresh with a completely objective POV. I want my instincts to kick in and to only be in full “see-story-shoot-story” mode.

I told you this so that I could tell you that the first thing that hit me when I entered the house was that Rhonda’s family dynamics is some kind of beautifully organized chaos. I would say there is nothing out of the ordinary with that statement, but 2 adults, 3 kids, 1 niece, and 5 dogs living in the house is bound to create some madness.

It. was. awe-some! I had such a great time and the house itself made the shoot awesome. Alright, I’ll stop talking and I’ll let you check out the images that came out of the session.

FYI: I wore a mask the entire day, used hand sanitizer, and tried to keep my distance as much as I could to protect Rhonda’s family, myself, and my family.
